Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth is the first hospital in the North Texas area to adopt the new FDA approved Trevo Pro Vue Clot Retriever, manufactured by Stryker Neurovascular, for removing clots from the brain in patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke (AIS).
The Trevo Pro Vue is the next generation in clot removal technology. This powerful new tool “retrieves” blood clots from within the brain’s vasculature, restoring blood flow to the brain faster for patients suffering from AIS. The Trevo Pro Vue is just the fourth mechanical thrombectomy device to receive FDA approval for AIS.
The Trevo Pro Vue demonstrated strong clinical results in the TREVO 2 clinical trial compared to the Merci Retriever, the previous generation of clot removal devices. This new technology has the highest rate of revascularization and good clinical outcomes in a randomized embolectomy stroke device trial. The new device is 92% effective, advancing physician’s ability to lead patients to better outcomes.
Plaza Medical Center remains committed to new technologies and advancements in the medical field to provide the best possible care to its patients.
“At Plaza, we are committed to providing safe, effective and the highest quality of care for all patients,” said Clay Franklin, CEO of Plaza Medical Center. “The Trevo Pro Vue is just one example how we are adopting the latest advances in technology to best serve our patients. The Trevo Pro Vue allows physicians to rapidly restore blood flow to the brain, faster and more effectively to allow patients a better chance to return to normal lives.”
Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the developed world and the leading cause of serious long-term disability. Ischemic stroke represents over 85% of strokes and occurs when a blockage or clot develops in one of the arteries supplying blood to the brain. Major strokes in which a blood clot lodges in one of the larger vessels of the brain have a poor prognosis if not treated quickly. The goal of intervention is to remove the thrombus from the vessel in the brain, thereby restoring blood flow to the brain. Next generation devices like the Trevo Pro Vue offer physicians and patients new options for stroke intervention.
