Plastic Surgery: Not Just for Women Anymore

For years, plastic surgery was largely marketed and consumed by women. From Demi Moore to Joan Rivers to the patients on popular shows like Nip/Tuck, society has talked about, even celebrated, a woman’s pursuit of the fountain of youth.

Now men are getting into the act, choosing to turn back the hands of time with procedures aimed at a giving them a more youthful and fit appearance. According to a new study from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), men underwent 1.1 million plastic surgery procedures in 2010, a 2 percent increase over the previous year. The most popular surgeries were facelifts, which saw a 14 percent increase. Men also went under the knife more in 2010 for adjustments to ears (up 11 percent), Botox treatments (up 10 percent), and liposuction (up 7 percent.) The most represented age group is men in their 50s.

Why are more men opting for plastic surgery? There may be many reasons including having more money, having more spare time, and having a strong desire to look younger. American Society of Plastic Surgeons, looking younger
